Itinerary:
The trip starts with the long, tough, steep downhill trek for 7 miles to
the Cottonwood campground. This is the hardest day of the hike and many sore knees
and feet are a result but the Bright Angel Creek provides a cold soothing spot to relax. The
second
day trek to Phantom Ranch of 7 miles is much easier and enjoyable. A quick
side trip to Ribbon Falls adds to the beauty of the canyon. At Phantom Ranch, Bright
Angel Creek again provides a relaxed place to spend the time and dinner at
the Ranch is always great.
The next morning we start the hike out on the steep trail up to Indian Garden.
The switch-backs seemed to go on forever but finally the 4 miles are completed
and you reached camp. After resting an optional 3 mile round trip hike to
an overlook of the lower canyon for Sunset is
available. The sunset is great and the views are
incredible. The final day hike out is tough and the number of tourist increases the closer
you get to the top.
